  • Our Labyrinth

An ancient practice, walking the labyrinth  can teach us to quiet our minds, so our souls might find a way to be stilled in the rush of our daily lives.

Labyrinth Walks at Saint James, Tempe

Labyrinths are an ancient spiritual tool.
In the Middle Ages, nearly twenty-five percent of cathedrals had a labyrinth somewhere on the property or inside the church. Now labyrinths are found in many different kinds of places like medical centers, prisons, parks, and even in people's backyards.

When to Walk
We schedule guided meditation walks seasonally. These guided walks are led by Gail Hartman, a certified labyrinth facilitator. Contact the church office for more information on our next guided walk. You are also welcome to walk the labyrinth anytime you wish.

How to Walk
At the threshold of the walk, take a moment to offer gratitude. You may choose to focus on a mantra, prayer, or intention. Then, as you begin your walk to the center, release your thoughts and concerns. When you reach the center stay as long as you wish in meditation, receiving the gifts of your walk. Return from the center to leave the labyrinth. Bring the experience of you labyrinth walk with you into the rest of your day. These are only suggestions. Each labyrinth walk is unique. Use your intuition to guide your walk.
